Emy Hussein is an Egyptian architect and artist whose work blurs the boundaries between art, architecture, and design. She is a Partner at Alchemy Group and founded Else Lab, one of Alchemy's design studios, which explores the intersections of spatial analysis, form, and artistic expression. Her professional journey began in 2010 at Alchemy, where she quickly rose to prominence and became a Partner.
By 2015, Emy and her partners launched Alchemy Architecture, a sub-brand
under Alchemy Group, expanding its creative reach into architecture and
bigger scale projects. Else Lab further reflects Emy’s vision, using design
and art as tools to challenge conventional paradigms and explore “the
formless” — ideas that transcend traditional material boundaries.
Alongside her architectural career, Emy’s artistic practice has been shaped by notable
mentorships and international experiences. She studied under late artist
Magd El Sagini, trained as an artist in Barcelona & Florence, and
participated in several international workshops and conferences.
Emy has showcased her work in several solo exhibitions in Cairo and contributed to prominent international group exhibitions and art fairs, reinforcing her presence in both the regional and global art scenes.
Emy Hussein is an Egyptian Architect and Artist who leads a creative studio that works to merge the boundaries between art, architecture and design.
After she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Emy was granted a
scholarship to complete her Master’s Degree at the University of Greenwich,
London, with a thesis that was ranked first. In 2010, she started working in
Alchemy Design Studio and eventually became one of the Art Directors.
By the end of 2015, Emy, along with the partners, established Alchemy
Architecture, a sub-brand of Alchemy, besides launching her own design studio.
Recently, Emy Hussein partnered up with Karim Mekhtigian and Mohamed Fares in
Alchemy Group and founded
the brand Else Lab, one of Alchemy’s sub-brands. Else Lab approaches design and
art as a tool to disentangle the established codes of today, focusing on the
points of intersection between architecture, art and spatial analysis.
Her work in art and architecture is related to questioning the idea of form and
exploring the dimension beyond the material; that which she calls the
‘formless.’ Alongside her career as an architect, Emy studied art with
the respectable artist Magd El Sagini. She also studied in Accademia D’Arte in
Florence,
and in 2015, she took part in Metafora’s International Workshop in Barcelona,
Spain. She also has had several solo art exhibitions in Cairo,Egypt.
